We're partnering with an innovative technology company transforming how audiences engage with live content across streaming, sports, entertainment, and digital media. Their platform powers real-time experiences used by major global brands, helping millions of viewers interact, engage, and transact during live events. As they continue to scale, they're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to help evolve a high-performance, cloud-native platform handling real-time data, streaming workflows, and large-scale user engagement.

Role Summary

You'll join a senior engineering team responsible for designing, building, and maintaining distributed backend systems that power live video experiences, monetisation features, community engagement tools, and real-time data services.

Working across a modern microservices architecture, you'll contribute to platform reliability, scalability, cloud infrastructure, and event-driven systems while collaborating with engineers across multiple time zones.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable backend services using Node.js and TypeScript
• Build and maintain microservices, APIs, background workers, and event-driven systems
• Work with cloud-native infrastructure across AWS and GCP
• Contribute to Kubernetes deployments, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure-as-Code initiatives
• Optimise system performance, observability, and platform reliability
• Integrate third-party services, authentication platforms, payment providers, and streaming technologies
• Participate in production support and incident management as part of a shared on-call rotation

Essential Skills:

• Strong commercial experience with Node.js and TypeScript
• Video streaming or media platform experience (HLS / MUX / EPG )
• Experience building distributed systems, microservices, and REST APIs
• Knowledge of event-driven architectures and messaging systems (Kafka, NATS, Pub/Sub, SQS, SNS or similar)
• Experience with MongoDB or other large-scale NoSQL databases
• Kubernetes and containerised deployment experience
• Cloud experience with AWS and/or GCP
• Comfortable working autonomously within a fully remote environment

Highly Desirable Skills:

• Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code experience
• Multi-cloud architecture exposure
• OAuth2 / OIDC authentication integrations
• Experience with observability tools such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, or distributed tracing solutions
• Stripe or payment platform integrations
